For some reason my luck seems to have tilted in a different direction on one website. That website is Y!Japan. You do have to use a forwarding service (I.E. Tenso/Buyee, ect.) to get items from Japan to you as many sellers don't ship to the U.S., but so far I've been okay with the services they've offered.
First of all I guess I should explain how Buyee works, as that is the one I have been using. Buyee is a proxy service that allows you to bid or buy directly on auctions from the Japanese Yahoo auction website, Y! Shoppiong Japan, Zozo, Rakuten, AKB48, and Japan Amazon. You pay immediately through their service, and the seller then ships the item to the Buyee ware house. Once the item arrives at Buyee's Warehouse, they send you an invoice for the amount it'll cost to ship from them to you. You pay the domestic shipping charge *Japanese shipping is WAY cheaper than U.S. shipping domestically* as well as the shipping from them to you. You can choose the shipping method. Buyee has a lot more options for shipping than sites like Amiami or Mandarake.
Most shipping is easy to guess what it should be if you have a reasonable idea of what the size and weight of the item are. I don't know any websites that allow you to calculate it, but my guesses are usually within five dollars or so of accuracy generally. If any of you have questions or doubts about ordering from Japan and want an idea of what shipping will cost feel free to contact me or leave a comment, I can probably give you a pretty accurate shipping estimate.
The one problem I have had with Buyee so far is that they messed up my shipping information after I submitted it. My address was correct under my profile, but under preferred shipping address it somehow deleted my street name and zip code. I don't know why, and I didn't realize until after they shipped several things out- so I'm really hoping that USPS will give me a call when my packages get to town rather than sending them straight back.
Anyway, my problem is a strange one indeed- I seem to have really good luck winning Dollfie Dreams for really cheap on Y!Japan. I don't know why or how it has worked out this way, but perhaps the main cause is that I don't have any money.. haha! In the past few weeks I have won a giant hamster house *that looks like a real house* which cost a ton to ship (I was surprisingly right about how much that one was going to cost too!), two DDs, and a couple of other things which I will post pictures of soon under unboxings!
Keep checking back for more updates! I hope this breif review of using Buyee helped some of you out a little bit!
